What you need to self-drive a chiller van
To rent a chiller van self-drive in the UAE you'll typically need:
A valid UAE driving licence. Most chiller vans up to 3,500 kg gross weight can be driven on a standard UAE light vehicle / car licence. Larger or heavier vans may require a light or heavy truck licence — we'll tell you which category your chosen van needs.
Minimum age — usually 21+ (some terms require 25+). (Set to your actual policy.)
Visitors / tourists — depending on your nationality and visa status, an accepted international driving permit alongside your home licence may be allowed. Rules vary, so confirm with us before booking.
A refundable security deposit — held against fines, tolls or damage and returned after the rental, subject to the vehicle being returned in good condition.

How to keep your cargo cold when you're driving
When you self-drive, you operate the refrigeration unit — not us. It's straightforward, and we'll show you at handover, but these four habits protect your load:
Pre-cool before loading
Run the unit and let the cargo area reach temperature before you load. Putting product into a warm van is the most common cold-chain mistake.
Set the right temperature for your cargo
Chilled goods (dairy, produce, prepared food) at 0°C to +8°C; frozen at −18°C or below. Don’t set colder “to be safe” — it can damage some products.
Minimise door openings
Every time the rear doors open in UAE heat, cold air escapes and the unit has to recover. Plan your stop order and keep openings brief.
Don't overload or block airflow
Leave space for cold air to circulate around the cargo; a packed-solid van cools unevenly.
